I meant to publish this a long time ago, but time slipped by me. Better late than never.

In my senior year I gave a presentation to the IDSA in which I had to summarize my work in 7 minutes. I opted to speak over a video, rather than a powerpoint, since it would force me to stick to my time-limit.

It’s been too long since this presentation, and I forget my speech, so you’ll just have to imagine what it was I was babbling while this played.

The central theme was the power of using computation and data in design to create things previously impossible.

The semester is finally wrapping up, with the last two weeks spending more nights awake than asleep. Final presentations went very well. The only project that isn’t finished is Roku, which is slated for release at the end of January.

Flirtastic! wowed everyone and was a flag finish. We have a mostly working vertical prototype, the result of a 5 day power session. It’s quite slick, jump around a bit. Make sure to try recording your own answer to our heroine’s question. Latest flash player & webcam required.

Flirtastic! is in the final hours, our presentation is at 10am, mere hours from now. I’d like to present a piece of our final work, the video sketch. Paul and Chris spent a lot of time, effort and sleepless nights over the last week on the production of this and it’s worth showing off.

A quick sketch of what the interaction for browsing a video Q & A might look like.

Since this is a little rough (and only uses images and has no audio) I will explain what you see here. First you watch the video question, which lasts about 5 seconds. The scene zooms out and the already submitted answers pop out into view. The answers play silently on loop, mousing over will cue in the audio. Clicking will zoom it into full screen.

Since there isn’t much background on Blab!, here’s a quick synopsis. I’m working with a small group on designing a tool for flirting online through the use of video messages. The goal is to link up those with few local friends due to being new to an area, busy, or what have you. Mostly to have a little fun online while founding new relationships. It’s been fun so far.
