openFrameworks on the iPhone

of-iphone

Over the last few months, Zach, Theo, Arturo and the rest of the openFrameworks gang have been hard at work to bring you the latest edition of openFrameworks: v006.

I’ve had the privilege of being included in the process, along with Memo Atken, Damian Stewart, and Zach Gage, to help openFrameworks run on the iPhone. Memo has also created some iPhone specific addons for accelerometers, multitouch, and more!

Memo has written up an awesome article about the process and first results, and how to get started with openFrameworks on the iPhone!

Zach and Theo are currently on tour teaching folks about openFrameworks and the first few oF based iPhone applications have reached the App Store!

Fireflies Released Tonight!

If you live in San Francisco, come out for the release party tonight!

After the release party, you will be able to download it for yourself!

Fireflies, our 3D game

Fireflies is a game using anaglyph red/blue 3D. Joannie Wu and I designed and developed the game over the last two months for Kokoromi’s Gamma3D exhibition, this upcoming Wednesday, Nov 19th. If you’re going to be in Montreal for the MIGS video game creators conference, be sure to check out Gamma3D and play Fireflies!

After the exhibition, you can download and play Fireflies yourself. Fireflies runs on Mac OSX, and we recommend an Xbox 360 controller for the best gameplay. You’ll need anaglyph glasses, which you can get for free online.

Anaglyph out.

Video Surface Prototype

A prototype interface for a touch-screen ’surface’ application for sampling a video portfolio I created for Rehab Studio in February. This interface would be displayed on a 60″ LCD touch screen embedded into a table surface.

Evolution of the shapes on the surface show and hide new clips available to watch. The clips available may change throughout the course of the day.

Watch it in HD.

iPhone – Yellowtail

A week ago I got a shiny new iPhone. A few days later I got my Developer’s Certificate and the API. Two days after that, today, I’ve got the first app up and running!

It’s a port of Golan Levin’s Yellowtail with the small addition of multi-touch.

A Midsummer Night’s Dream

My independent study for the second half of the past semester has been augmented stage craft. Using an infrared camera, a high-power projector and a custom app I’ve built using the fantastic openFrameworks I am creating an interactive scene of flora and fauna for the actors to become a part of.

Midsummer Night’s Dream - Projected Screen

Matt Gray and I have been working hard over the last few weeks to produce a scene from A Midsummer Night’s Dream using this augmented stagecraft. It’s being edited together at the moment and will be up for public consumption as soon as possible!

Midsummer Night’s Dream - From Above

It’s been much of a learning process for me. I’m doing my vision using the powerful IPP libraries which, if you’re a student, are quite affordable. I’ve probably learned more about lighting than software with this endeavor. Setting up good lighting is more important than writing good software, and when it comes to capturing from a live stage, that isn’t so easy.
